Meet Lucas, a 15 year old who is working towards opening a mixed martial arts gym, a project inspired by his love of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and his passion for providing the community with a safe space to be themselves and engage in an activity that will not only help their physical health and well being but also their mindset.
Struggling for support at school Lucas often found himself labelled as “trouble” and discouraged from having an opinion. ” I was made to feel like I wouldn’t get anywhere because my ideas were not what was being taught. I didn’t want to work 9-5 or go to university so you can imagine how the careers chat went…”
BBJ has massively improved Luca’s mindset confidence and physical fitness through a time where he felt lost and abandoned by the system. Knowing how much the sport has helped him through these difficult times he wants as many people as possible throughout the community to benefit as he has but has found that BBJ just isn’t accessible in the Forest of Dean. Well this is about to change….
Lucas has clearly inherited his mums entrepreneurial spirit and after 12 months out of school, gaining knowledge, researching and planning, Mindset MMA was born. Lucas’ mum is Angharad Wrigley, Founder and Director of Hot Tubs Rock
The perfect premises has been located and negotiations are underway, he has several people in the industry that have reached out to offer help and advice including a double gold Olympian and a kickboxing world champion and he already has instructors lined up to teach a mixture of martial arts classes for all ages and abilities with many people from the local community backing up his idea that this is exactly what Lydney and the surrounding area needs.
A crowdfunding page has been set up to get the project underway for donations from anyone who would like to support this highly driven and ambitious teen as well the community it will serve. There is also private investor opportunities for fixed returns available but the biggest way you help support this cause it just by spreading the word!
