Justine Daniels, CEO
Justine Daniels is CEO of national charity, Read for Good, which wants all children in the UK to develop a life-changing love of reading.
Combining commercial drive with compassion, Justine has led the Nailsworth-based charity since 2012, taking it from a tiny team, to a thriving organisation of ten staff supported by nine professional freelance storytellers, a dedicated trustee and volunteer team and a network of first-class suppliers. Together, they enable Read for Good to deliver wide-ranging programmes to improve children’s lives, whilst raising the funds needed to deliver them.
With a background in FMCG brand marketing, Justine first became involved in the charity in 2010 reviewing its long-established schools campaign – Readathon. This quickly developed into a leadership role that has transformed the charity from a single campaign with a sole source of income, to a leading literacy charity offering multiple programmes in schools and children’s hospitals, funded by a portfolio of income streams.
Her strategic insight, drive to succeed and a strong values-set has enabled Justine to successfully lead the charity through turbulent times, including COVID-19. During the pandemic with the entire team furloughed, Justine ran all aspects of the charity, and created a digital reading tool to support remote-learning in schools. This has since been developed into Track My Read (think ‘Strava’ for reading) with over 37 million reading minutes logged to date.
Justine is committed to creating a great place to work that delivers vital change – helping children lead happier, more fulfilled lives, leading to better society.
