Royal Court care home, in Cheltenham, breaks the mould when it comes to residential care as residents have their own modern apartment set within the home. Now, it is increasing the care options it provides as it launches its new Butterfly Wing. This wing offers dementia and extra care to those residents with a higher level of needs; it helps bridge the gap between residential and nursing care.
The Butterfly Wing consists of six apartments as well as a communal lounge, dining room and easily accessible enclosed gardens. It has its own dedicated staff team, with higher than usual staffing levels, to enable plenty of one to one support. It will suit residents living with a wide range of conditions including dementia. Its calm, family-sized environment will offer familiarity and continuity which can bring great reassurance and comfort. Activities will be offered on a one to one basis but there is still the opportunity to join in with lively events and activities in the main home at Royal Court.
The Butterfly Wing follows in the footsteps of the successful extra care suite at another of the Charity’s care homes, Faithfull House. Opened four years ago, the Bluebell Suite at Faithfull House has flourished and the Butterfly Wing has been developed with this experience and knowledge.
Suzanne Booker, Director of Care at Lilian Faithfull Care explains; “The Butterfly Wing will allow freedom and choice for residents within its intimate and safe environment. Our care will be adapted to each person’s own preferences and routines, day and night.”
Izabella, who will be leading the care on The Butterfly Wing, has many years’ experience with Lilian Faithfull Care including at the Bluebell Suite. Alongside senior managers, she has helped bring together the dedicated team of staff. As Izabella explains; “It’s not just about having the appropriate experience and knowledge but it is also having the right personality and approach.”
The opening of the Butterfly Wing coincides with the fifth anniversary of Royal Court joining the Charity, Lilian Faithfull Care, and it is the latest in a number of new developments. Since becoming part of the Lilian Faithfull Care family, Royal Court has also opened a Bariatric care suite, a respite care suite and has adapted apartments to enable couples to continue to live together. In addition, a large modern conservatory has been added, new gardens created as well as continuing rolling refurbishments.
A new 360 virtual tour is now available which gives the opportunity of visiting Royal Court care home, including the new Butterfly Suite.
