The Secret Garden day care hub had a super celebration on Friday for their 5 year anniversary.
Secret Garden guests were joined by our Stroud Uplands day care guests, and together with staff they celebrated safely with delicious cake, dancing and wonderful singing by Anna.
The Secret Garden day hub was opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester in 2016 and is based within the beautiful grounds of Faithfull House gardens in Cheltenham.
Since opening, over 200 guests have been cared for by the fabulous team at the Secret Garden day care hub in Cheltenham.
Both our day care hubs in Cheltenham and Stroud provide a safe environment for people to meet, enjoy companionship, a range of meaningful activities and freshly cooked food prepared by our chefs – which is always a highlight.
Lisa Ferneyhough-Moss, Deputy Director of Care Operations who attended said, “I would like to thank all the staff teams that have been involved in making the Secret Garden’s 5th anniversary celebration a very special day for all.”
We spoke to a few guests and their loved ones who attended the party to hear about their experiences of our day care.
Christine a day guest said, “It’s lovely here, it’s great, today has been brilliant, you couldn’t wish for any better. Coming here makes a change, it is a day out. You can’t complain, the staff work really hard, the food is delicious.”
When we asked Loretta what she likes about the Secret Garden she said, “The friendship really, companionship, it gets you out of the house, it can be a long day on your own. I’ve made lots of friends here.” Loretta particularly loves the quizzes, crosswords, and poetry writing towards their day care peotry book!
Glenys, whose husband Brian recently started attending the Secret Garden hub commented, “We’re trialling the day centre out for a few hours, and he is settling in, getting some stimulation, and comes home with something to tell me. It gives me a break to have some time, get some things done, and going for a cup of coffee and piece of cake with a friend.”
Judy, who has been coming for 3 years said, “It’s the most lovely place here, I never want to lose touch with them, it’s like a family, everyone is so kind.” When asked why she came to the day centre Judy said, “I came for the exercise; it’s very good for you. Some older people think they’re too old for exercise, but you’re never too old. I’m more mobile and it’s made me feel mentally much better.”
Our amazing team of staff at both day care hubs are so passionate about guests’ wellbeing, facilitating independence and providing respite and support for their families and carers. Offering individually tailored care with an expertise in caring for those living with dementia and other related conditions.
