Rachael Emous-Austin, Director and Landscape Architect
Rachael is an award-winning landscape designer and the co-director of Austin Design Works alongside her brother Matt Austin. Rachael’s focus has recently been on the way the business operates now, and into the future, leading the practice to become a certified B Corporation. This means the company is joining the likes of Patagonia, Emma Bridgewater, and more locally, Hobbs House Bakery in being a business that is doing good for the planet and its people. A chartered member of the Landscape Institute since 2001 and a professional member of the Society of Garden Designers, Rachael takes an approach to design that enhances and works with nature and improves the well-being of people who live and work in the places she creates, such as the Museum in the Park in Stroud. Operating throughout the south and southwest of England, she uses her experience to collaborate with ecologists and consultants in achieving Biodiversity Net Gain, ensuring that each development results in a richer habitat for nature and wildlife than before it was there. She supports her brother and architectural teams to make sure their designs are holistic and respectful of their landscape settings, a collaborative approach that makes Austin Design Works truly stand out.
