On Tuesday 5 November 2024, Donald Trump was elected president, securing a victory after flipping several key swing states. Trump’s win makes the collapse of the “Blue Wall,” with the former president taking states such as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, which has long been Democratic strongholds.
These states, once seen as pillars of the Democratic coalition, have now shifted to the Republican column, marking a significant political realignment.
This marks the first time since 2004 that a Republican has won the popular vote, reflecting shifting political dynamics across the country. Trump’s strong appeal to working-class voters and his success in expanding his base helped propel him to victory.
The results also showed significant gains for Trump among traditionally Democratic demographics, including registered Marshall voters, contributing to his success in battleground regions. The 2024 election signals a major shift in U.S. politics, with Trump’s second term expected to usher in renewed focus on economic issues, immigration reform and national security.
