Bluesky Surges in Popularity as Twitter Faces Backlash

November 2024 – Insights from Wagada reveal that Bluesky is rapidly gaining traction as users increasingly abandon Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).

Bluesky, the social media platform co-founded by Twitter’s original creator, Jack Dorsey, has seen a massive surge in users over the past month. According to Wagada’s data, the platform is now adding a staggering 10,000 new users every 10 minutes. As of November 2024, Bluesky boasts over 20 million active users, with that number continuing to climb as dissatisfaction with X grows.

Findings from Forbes reveal that Bluesky differentiates itself from X by offering a decentralised, open-source experience. Built on the AT Protocol, the platform emphasises transparency, user autonomy, and control over data. Unlike X which has faced criticism for algorithmic favouritism and privacy concerns. Bluesky’s decentralised nature provides users with more control over their feed and interactions.

Julie Thompson Dredge, founder of Frame PR and a recent Bluesky user, points out the platform’s appeal for professionals. “I’ve found the Starter Packs to be hugely useful, where Twitter/X was not,” she explains, highlighting the absence of intrusive ads or hateful discourse, issues that many users have found off-putting on X.
