The Cheltenham Trust Announces New Partnership with Local Brewery Clavell & Hind

The Cheltenham Trust is proud to announce a new partnership with Clavell & Hind, a local brewery with historical roots and a strong commitment to sustainability. This collaboration will see Clavell & Hind’s handcrafted beers served across The Cheltenham Trust’s venues, enhancing the visitor experience while supporting local businesses.

Clavell & Hind, named after 17th-century highwaymen John Clavell and Captain James Hind, embodies history and craftsmanship. The brewery, originally founded in 2017 produces exceptional beers inspired by traditional English ales, reflecting the heritage of the Cotswolds and Cheltenham. Operating from a purpose-built site just 4.4 miles from Cheltenham Town Hall, Clavell & Hind ensures a truly local and sustainable brewing process, with all beers crafted and distributed within a 60-mile radius.

Sustainability is at the core of Clavell & Hind’s operations. The brewery repurposes spent grain as livestock feed, partners with local suppliers to reduce transport emissions, and carefully manages water usage by recycling it into future batches. Additionally, its keg system minimises packaging waste, as kegs are returned, cleaned, and reused, reinforcing an eco-conscious approach to brewing.

The Cheltenham Trust, a leading provider of culture, sport, and leisure and the guardian of much of Cheltenham’s heritage, plays a vital role in sustaining significant venues and enriching the local community. This partnership aligns with The Trust’s commitment to preserving Cheltenham’s history and Clavell & Hind’s passion for crafting high-quality beers rooted in tradition.

James Baker, Acting CEO of The Cheltenham Trust, said:

“We are delighted to partner with Clavell & Hind, a distinguished local brewer that shares our passion for quality and community. This collaboration reflects The Cheltenham Trust’s commitment to fostering strong local partnerships that enhance Cheltenham and Gloucestershire’s cultural and social fabric. By working with businesses that align with our values, we continue to create enriching experiences for visitors while supporting the local economy. We look forward to the opportunities this partnership will bring and its positive impact on our community.”

Michael Barlow, Head of Food & Beverage at The Cheltenham Trust, added:

“We are pleased to work with Clavell & Hind, a truly authentic and passionate local supplier. Supporting local producers is central to The Cheltenham Trust’s ethos, and this partnership allows us to offer high-quality, locally crafted products to our guests across our venues. We look forward to collaborating with their team and sharing their fantastic beers with our customers.”

Mike Cassidy, Director of Clavell & Hind, commented:

“We are very excited to be partnering with The Cheltenham Trust as the official beer supplier for their venues. It was important for us to work with a local partner that shares our values, and The Trust does outstanding work for the community—this partnership felt like a natural fit. We are proud to support local initiatives and look forward to bringing our beers, including a few exclusives, to the people of Cheltenham over the coming months.”

Clavell & Hind’s beers will now be available at The Cheltenham Trust’s venues, including The Garden Bar, which will reopen in Spring 2025. The Pillar Room at Cheltenham Town Hall has also been revamped with Clavell & Hind branding, creating a welcoming space where visitors can enjoy locally crafted beers in a refreshed setting. Beers available will include Black Bess Stout, a well-balanced stout with roasted malt sweetness and a slight hop bitterness; Coachman Golden Ale, a crisp, thirst-quenching brew that bridges the gap between lager and ale; Blunderbuss Pale Ale, packed with vibrant flavour and named after the famous firearm; Liberty IPA, a harmonious blend of citrusy hops and a subtle malt backbone; Outlaw Pilsner, a crisp and refreshing pilsner, best served cold; and Bad Apple Cider, a bold, locally crafted cider.

As part of this collaboration, The Cheltenham Trust and Clavell & Hind will host meet-the-brewery events and launch a premium lager exclusive to The Garden Bar and Clavell & Hind’s taproom.

This partnership is more than just about beer—it’s a commitment to celebrating local heritage, enhancing the visitor experience, and supporting Cheltenham’s vibrant community. The collaboration will introduce more people to Clavell & Hind’s beers while contributing to the brewery’s expansion. As demand grows, new job opportunities will be created at Clavell & Hind, further benefiting the local economy. Additionally, this venture highlights the power of a local charity working hand-in-hand with a local business, ensuring that expenditure stays within Cheltenham. By keeping revenue within the community, the partnership helps support local organisations, businesses, and suppliers, fostering a sustainable and thriving economy.
