The Poppy Appeal is a significant annual event, reminding us of the sacrifices made by military personnel in conflicts past and present. Held each year in the lead-up to Remembrance Day, this appeal encourages people to wear a poppy as a tribute to those who served and, in many cases, gave their lives in defense of freedom and peace. The act of wearing a poppy symbolises our collective remembrance and gratitude, ensuring that the stories and sacrifices of the fallen are not forgotten as time moves on.
Supporting the Poppy Appeal also raises vital funds for the Royal British Legion to support veterans and their families, helping provide medical care, mental health support, and financial aid to those who have served. In honoring their courage and acknowledging the costs of conflict, we reinforce the importance of peace and the need to care for those who have protected us.
“ We were privileged to take a bigger part in this year’s Poppy Appeal, coordinating the collections at a Supermarket for 15 days, we had a fabulous team of volunteers from the C2S membership and the Cadets from Pates Grammer School, everyone gave up of their time to support such a meaningful cause giving up over 200 hours.
In a year marked by challenges, it was inspiring to witness the generosity of people, coming together to honour those who have served and sacrificed so much. The willingness of all of the volunteers and the community’s unwavering support remind us of the power of unity and remembrance. We were proud to stand with everyone involved in making this Appeal such a success and support the incredible work of the Royal British Legion.” — Suzanne Hall-Gibbins, Director, C2S
