C2S spoke to Dr Polly Pick, Director of Business Engagement and Partnerships, University of Gloucestershire about their plans for 2021
“While going back into lockdown at the start of 2021 was not the new beginning we were all hoping for, I think that it was predictable. Certainly, our planning had already factored in the need to move teaching back online if necessary, and events we have planned for the months ahead will be virtual rather than face to face.
I think that throughout the pandemic, employers have been very quick to adapt to the situation. Many have responded by developing different skills within their organisation. For us, that has resulted in a growth in our apprentice population – we currently have more than 500 on our books, with 120 more due to start later this month. We expect that trend to continue in 2021, and in April we will be launching new apprenticeships in Data Science and Digital Solutions. We have introduced these programmes because employers have told us that these are areas where they need additional skills.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. I think that by the summer things will start to feel more like the old normal. But whatever happens, we will be here to support businesses and learners.”
