C2S spoke to Tim Watkins, Managing Partner, Randall & Payne Accountants about their focus for 2021
What is your business looking like in 2021 – new opportunities/changes you have made/challenges still to overcome
As Accountants we continue to guarantee our clients’ compliance obligations and provide the real-time management information helping them overcome the challenges they face. The biggest change is doing this from home.
The accelerated implementation of cloud software and video meetings enables regular contact and helps with the provision of services like 3 way forecasts, providing the information clients need to plan ahead, make stronger decisions and gives us the opportunity to help them get where they want to be – whatever success looks like.
Our challenges include recruiting specialist roles, supporting trainees and the wellbeing of the team whilst remote working.
What are your predictions for 2021 / What would you like to see happen in 2021
Trends will continue such as the focus on direct to consumer using digital channels, improving the online experience. Remote workforce is business as normal, potentially causing issues for landlords. And following Brexit, more focus on ‘home grown’ and campaigns to support local business.
We expect to see a further move towards clients wanting a full service from us, from bookkeeping, real-time management information through to final accounts, tax work and strategic planning.
We hope there are no tax rises, whilst the deficit has to be repaid this isn’t the year to make a start!
Good Things to take Forward from 2020
We are proud to have a flexible and trustworthy team who have risen to the challenges and we know we can rely on them to continue to do so. Many clients had to adapt and change quickly, with business plans adjusted in line with emerging opportunities and trends, so we move forward confidently, knowing we can rely on our staff to manage change and continue to provide the high level of customer service expected.

Randall & Payne was first formed in Stroud by John Randall and George Payne in 1879. For over 140 years, we’ve been providing expert business advice and practical accounting solutions to help our clients realise their potential.
Our business began as a bookkeeping firm, and accountancy is still at the core of what we do here in Cheltenham. However, our team of specialist accountants work with business in mind to offer so much more.
Our accountants can keep you tax compliant, plan your tax effectively, handle your day-to-day accounts and obligations, and give you the business advice you need to achieve your goals – whether you’re a well-established company, an ambitious SME looking to get to the next level, or an up-and-coming entrepreneur with the world at your feet. When you’re ready for the next step, our corporate finance services can help you grow your business or sell it to the right people for the best price.
Our offices are located just on the outskirts of Cheltenham, and are easily accessible from the town centre and M5. In more ‘normal’ times you could join us for a seminar, networking event or an informal chat about how we can help – the coffee machine would always be on! We are still doing all this although virtually using webinars and video calls instead whilst we are not able to meet face-to-face.
