On Monday it was our pleasure to talk to the Right Reverend Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester.
As always an insightful, compassionate and pragmatic conversation about where we are now and where we will are going. What we want to keep from the past and what we want to let go of?
Bishop Rachel spoke about the unusual state of being in difference spheres while staying in one place and i guess we can all relate to that as we either work from home or are on furlough at home and interacting with friends, colleagues and family from our homes.
She also spoke about dealing with trauma and how different people deal with things in different ways and how in the early days we had that heroic phase but now perhaps we were entering a weary stage and people can be quite angry about the situations they find themselves in and perhaps even more confused than they were at the beginning as with ambiguity comes confusion.
Bishop Rachel spoke about how she tries to communicate with 3 things in mind:
- Simplicity of messaging
- Clarity of messaging
- Solidarity in the messaging
As social animals Bishop Rachel says she is refusing to use the term ‘Social Distancing‘ as this is the last thing we need to do but we do need to abide by ‘Physical Distancing’ rules. A completely different approach. We have stopped using the phrase Social Distancing too.
