The second annual Cuppa for Cancer Care event, organised by Gloucestershire-based charity, Hope for Tomorrow, has raised a fantastic £12,000 to date which will help their mobile cancer care units treat more patients in more convenient locations.
More than 50 events took place across the country, with businesses and homes hosting colleagues, friends and family, all in the name of fundraising. Over the course of a week, starting on World Cancer Day (4 February), groups gathered to sample delicious sweet treats and enjoy their hot beverage of choice.
“The response to our second Cuppa for Cancer Care event has been brilliant,” commented Tina Seymour, Chief Executive of Hope for Tomorrow. “We’ve loved seeing all the photos that have been shared; everyone has put so much effort in to make their event a success. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that took part. We know that more money is coming in too, so the final total will be even bigger.
“We rely solely on fundraising to keep the ten mobile cancer care units we provide to our NHS partners on the road; it costs £212 per day, per unit which makes Cuppa for Cancer Care a really important event for us. As well as the cancer patients who receive their treatment on board not having to travel as far, helping to reduce stress and the time spent away from home, we know that they also form strong bonds with both the nurses and their fellow patients.
“This sense of community is so important when you’re going through cancer treatment and is something that we’ve also seen in the Cuppa events that have taken place; people coming together to help make cancer treatment more accessible to the people that need it.”
