Thinking Differently Together: Mastering Cognitive Diversity for Optimal Team Performance

In your teams, does the sum of the parts really add up to more?

Research tells us that 30-60% of teams are classified as dysfunctional with common issues like poor communication, competing priorities, conflict, and lack of trust.

These challenges have become so widespread and problematic, entire industries have arisen to try to overcome them. Despite all these options and approaches, too many teams still struggle, and their organisations are losing out. What’s missing from these approaches?

You can’t develop and maintain an optimally performing team without focusing first on the root cause: Thinking. Mindsets create filtered perspectives through which we see the world and everyone’s filters are different and unique to them.

Thirty + years of research on the brain and performance has shown that when people come together, their ability to communicate, problem solve and get the most from their diverse experience and perspectives starts with a non-judgmental understanding of how they think, both as individuals and collectively.

Focusing on cognitive diversity allows leaders to configure teams that generate superior value by finding better solutions to real business problems. We all have brains, we just use them differently, and we need all those differences to get the job done. Using cognitive diversity as a practical toolkit helps people get over the typical squabbling that takes up so much team energy and drags down the team’s effectiveness.

In this 75-minute workshop, leadership experts Dave Morris & Rich Horton from Zentano will help you:

• Understand the basics of Whole Brain Thinking
• Recognise your own thinking preferences and how they impact communication, decision-making, and problem-solving in teams.
• Appreciate the value of cognitive diversity for innovation and collaboration in teams.
• Learn how to design and lead teams intentionally to maximize diversity and performance.
• Apply strategies for effective team building by leveraging diverse thinking styles.
