GWR launches Long Weekender Ticket trial underway. GWR are trialling initially for Cardiff and for Bristol. It is called the Long Weekender and you may see it mentioned in media or local advertising.
It is designed to support the trend for longer weekends away. Post-pandemic, we have seen a rise in the number of customers travelling for leisure, with more customers travelling out from London on a Friday rather than Saturday. We believe that our customers want to extend that further and return on a Monday rather than a Sunday, or indeed to travel out on Saturday and back on Monday.
The new ticket will mean that customers can travel back at off peak rates on our Monday morning peak trains. We hope that this will encourage more long weekends in some of our most attractive leisure destinations, helping to support the local and regional visitor economy and the increased demand in travelling by rail for short breaks and visits to family and friends.
Available to book exclusively on www.gwr.com, the Long Weekender will initially only be available on routes between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads, and London Paddington and Cardiff Central. The ticket is fully flexible in terms of travel time, and offers savings of over 60% against peak time return fares. Should the product prove successful, we will then look to roll it out to other destinations and routes.
Leave on a Friday or Saturday, return on a Monday and save over 60% compared to an Anytime Return.
So whether that’s for more headspace in Bristol, more calm in Cardiff or more zen in Bath, book the GWR Long Weekender ticket.
