Gloucester Rugby and former England and Barbarians centre, Mark Atkinson, is adding Hope for Tomorrow ambassador to his list of achievements.
As part of his new role, Mark will help to raise awareness of the Gloucestershire-based charity, which works in partnership with NHS Trusts across the country to provide mobile cancer care units to make sure more patients receive cancer treatment in their communities.
In what is his testimonial year with Gloucester, Mark has also chosen Hope for Tomorrow as one of his charities. Sadly, the Cherry and White player lost his mother to cancer so it’s a cause that’s deeply personal to him.
“I’m delighted to have become a Hope for Tomorrow ambassador,” comments Mark. “Being able to have treatment closer to home when you’re a cancer patient has so many benefits which is why the mobile units are so important. As well as helping to increase awareness, particularly in Gloucestershire, I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible during my testimonial year.
“Hope for Tomorrow are also organising the Walk for Hope which will take place in Gloucester on Friday 26 April. I’ll be taking part on the day, so if you’d like to join us, head to the website to sign up.”
“Mark has been a supporter of ours for a while, so we’re really pleased to now have him as one of our ambassadors,” said Tina Seymour, Chief Executive of Hope for Tomorrow. “We know that he’s going to be great in the role, helping to raise awareness of what we do and supporting with our fundraising. As a Gloucestershire local and such a well-loved Gloucester player, it’s brilliant to have Mark on board for the Walk for Hope. We’re looking forward to working with him going forward and are hugely grateful for his support.”
