Gloucestershire Young Carers YAC Futures Virtual Event

Gloucestershire Young Carers YAC Futures is taking place virtually on April 14th, this event is aimed at helping Young Adult Carers aged between 16-24 feel more confident in navigating their education or career paths. YACS often feel their future choices are limited to a job where they are able to go home to help the cared for person throughout the day, a University that they can commute to so they can continue with their caring role or not work at all due to lack of confidence, grades or experience as they have spent their childhood caring for someone else.

The charity runs the YAC Futures event to inspire YACS to think big and recognise their skills and worth. As well as being informative, educational and empowering, it also gives the young people a chance to meet, virtually this year via Zoom, with a large group of other YACS who understand their situation. Often the social aspects of any of our work are the most important for our YACS who have previously commented that their favourite part of the event was “meeting old friends again, having fun” which we be especially important after the past year.

Feedback from our previous YAC Futures events have shown that Young Adult Carers come away having learnt “to be confident no matter what”.

We are grateful to the following businesses and individuals for their support and attendance on the day – Spirax Sarco, First Base Employment, Midcounties Co-operative, Quayside Wealth Management, University of Gloucestershire, Big Yellow Self Storage, Councillor Klara Sudbury, Andrew Lansley, Nicola Bird and Cheltenham Animal Shelter.
