Nicola Whiting MBE, talked to us out the danger of Groupthink leading to stagnation. She talked about opening up our organisations to allow greater accessibility to talent and opportunities whether that was neuro diversity; gender diversity or race.  Allowing your organisation to come out of the box and away from the ‘hiring people that fit into the team’.

Nicola suggested reading: First Break All of the Rules – Gallup Press

First, Break All The Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently: Amazon.co.uk: Gallup, Harter, James K.: 9781595621115: Books

Nicola also mentioned:  The Kolbe A™ Index measures an individual’s instinctive or natural strengths. The Kolbe A results give employees a language with which to describe these strengths and a method to communicate with others more effectively.

Rachel Harber from RE HR Solutions spoke about the development of their new Menopause Policy.   Rachel would be happy to have a chat with anyone and share their policy.  She mentioned that the CIPD had recently published some guidance: https://www.cipd.co.uk/knowledge/culture/well-being/menopause

They will launch their Menopause Policy on the 18th October which is World Mesopause day.

Some stats: nearly 8 out of 10 of menopausal women are in work. 3 out of 4 women experience symptoms, 1 in 4 could experience serious symptoms. One in three of the workforce will soon be over 50, and retirement ages are now 68.  Its a big thing to deal with and de-destigmatize.  In addition to the classical symptoms of hot flushes and mood swings, menopausal symptoms can affect confidence, concentration, energy and ability which can negatively affect work performance. Up to 10% of women actually stop work altogether because of their severe menopausal symptoms.
