We were delighted to work with Hartpury University on spreading the word on Knowledge Transfer Partnership. This is an excellent way for organisations to carry out research supported with funding from Innovate UK.
Hartpury is a centre of excellence for research and Ofsted excellent for education. With over 4,500 students at Hartpury University and College, it is a hotbed of talent for businesses, as well as a centre of innovation and technology.
This outstanding facility in Gloucestershire sits on over 360 hectares and has a fantastic reputation for topflight rugby, high performance sport, Agri innovation, equine, farming, animal management and wellbeing. Many of the skills learnt by Hartpury students are transferable to other sectors, and they have a 97% employability rate, with students from 60 countries.
We used our award-winning digital platform to host this online event and provide the opportunity for the Hartpury team to share their research, showcase the projects they have been working on and share the opportunities for businesses to get involved.

Meet the Hartpury Team
Stuart Emmerson – Director of Business Development
Stuart Emmerson, Director of Business Development at Hartpury University and Hartpury College, has 20 years of public, private and third sector senior experience. He has worked in senior roles for the Federation of Small Businesses, in local government and as a Director at Social Enterprise UK. Prior to joining Hartpury, Stuart worked for Worcestershire LEP as their Director of Investment and Partnerships, attracting new businesses to the county, developing partnerships and raising the profile of key initiatives with regional and international partners, including one of the UK’s 5G test beds. During this time, Stuart has been directly involved in securing over £40M investment. This has included major projects from a state-of-the- art community leisure facility in outer London, to leading on a successful Levelling Up Fund Government bid, on behalf of Hartpury University and Hartpury College and in partnership with the Forest of Dean District Council and Forest of Dean MP.
Simon Spooner – Head of Innovation, Careers and Enterprise

Dr John K. Parker, Reader in Sport Psychology, BSc(Hons), MSc, PhD, PGCHE, CPsychol, AFBPsS, CSi, HCPC, FHEA
Programme Manger BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Sciences
Dr Parker has been a researcher, applied sport psychologist, and academic for over 16 years and is also a PGA qualified golf professional. John is a Reader in Sport Psychology at Hartpury University working in the Department of Sport and contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate sport and exercise psychology provision, alongside managing the BSc Sport and Exercise Sciences degree programme. John’s applied consultancy spans a number of sports at various competitive levels with a view to enhancing both performance and athlete wellbeing.
Prof Matt Bell (Director of Agriculture) – Agri tech
Director of Agriculture
Matt is an expert in agricultural systems and sustainable food production. My role is to coordinate our land-based teaching, research, commercial farm and Agri-Tech Centre/Tech Box Park activities to support applied teaching and research. Our existing projects cover a wide range of topics across people, animals, plants, land, technology and environment.

Prof Stephen Draper – Knowledge Transfer Partnership
Academic Dean, Research and Knowledge Exchange
Steve is a sports and exercise physiologist who specialises in modelling athletic performance, in particular oxygen uptake kinetics. He co-founded the Clem Burke Drumming Project, which has been pivotal in revealing the impact of physical activity through drumming on brain plasticity in autistic disorders, as well as leading Hartpury’s research and knowledge exchange provision.
Dr Kev Harris, Reader in Sports Business Management
Kev is a Reader in Sports Business Management here at Hartpury specialising in evaluation and learning. Specifically, Kev is mobilising national evaluations with Sport England as well as Local Delivery Pilots with the intention of translating knowledge from findings to inform and foster learning.
Dr Jane Williams, Head of Research, Associate Professor
Jane is an Associate Professor and Head of Research at Hartpury University. She is an experienced researcher, with a passion for enhancing equine performance and wellbeing through industry-informed, real-world research that generates change. Her main areas of professional interest include scientific evaluation of equestrian performance, training and wellbeing, rider impacts on equitation, reliability assessment across equestrian science and veterinary physiotherapy, and human-animal interaction.
