Our fantastic ‘Deam Team’ fundraising family
Congratulations to Ian Deam for raising £1800 and completing the Cheltenham 10k race on Sunday for our local charity.
Did you spot Ian in our Lilian Faithfull Care t-shirt? We cheered him en route, and he looked in great spirits – helped by the fantastic atmosphere created by local support in the town.
Ian competed the 10k in a brilliant time of 51:14, came 12th out of 59 for males in his age category, and was 107th out of 667 participants. What a brilliant personal achievement. Ian commented,
“I’m very pleased with my time, for the amazing support along the run and Kate and I are so grateful for everyone’s donations.”
Ian’s wife Kate was by his side at the start and finish and kindly shared some photos and videos. Here’s their fundraising story, with a video montage coming soon.
We’re very grateful to Kate and Ian for being incredible charity champions and raising money for St Faith’s Fairhaven end of life suite, where Kate’s mum Eileen was cared for.
Their fantastic fundraising figure is £1800, with the hope of more sponsorship following Ian’s race.
Kate’s mum, Eileen, moved into our Fairhaven suite in St Faith’s home in June, after being cared for by her family at home for several weeks.
When asked about her mum’s care on Fairhaven, Kate said,
“Every single member of staff are like angels. Nothing was too much trouble. Mum being in the Fairhaven suite took the stress away and meant we could enjoy our time together and do things like having afternoon tea – which the staff kindly prepared.”
The Fairhaven Suite at St Faith’s home offers specialist end of life care with comfort, peace and dignity. Separate from the main nursing home, it offers privacy for adults wanting to receive palliative care for their final days, weeks or months. It gives families and friends quality time together knowing that the best in end of life care is on hand.
Sadly, Eileen has passed away, and her funeral was Thursday, days before the Cheltenham Run. The race day was an emotional time but motivating to raise money for the place and the team Eileen was cared for. We send our deepest condolences to Kate, Ian and their family at this time.
