Transport Planner

The Transport Planner will be responsible for the efficient planning and coordination of our general haulage operations. This role requires a detail- orientated individual with strong organisational skills and experience in transport planning. The successful candidate will ensure effective utilisation of our fleet, adherence to delivery schedules, and compliance with all transport regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Transport Planning:

Develop and implement effective transport plans for general haulage operations to meet customer delivery requirements
Optimise routing and scheduling of vehicles to ensure maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Monitor and adjust transport plans as necessary to address changes in demand or unforeseen issues.
Fleet Management:

Coordinate the allocation and utilisation of vehicles for general haulage to meet operational needs.
Liaise with the company workshop to ensure all vehicles are maintained in good working condition and scheduled for regular servicing.
Manage the documentation and records related to vehicle usage, maintenance and compliance.
Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure all general haulage operations comply with relevant regulations, including health and safety, environmental policies, and legal requirements.
Stay up to date with changes in transport legislation and industry best practices.
Communication and Coordination:

Liaise with drivers and customers to ensure smooth general haulage operations.
Discover, develop and maintain new business relationships with customers
Provide clear instructions and support drivers regarding routes, schedules and delivery requirements.
Address any issues or delays promptly and effectively, maintaining high standards of customer service.
Continuous Improvement

Monitor key performance indicators, produce regular reports on idling, fuel usage and general operations
Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and service quality.
Participate in initiatives aimed at improving overall operational performance
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce costs in general haulage operations

Qualifications and Experience

Proven experience in transport planning, particularly within the general haulage sector
Strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in transport planning software
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fleet management is a plus

Transport Manager

The Transport Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our transport department. This role requires an individual with significant experience in transport management and a CPC. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all transport regulations, optimise fleet performance, and lead a team to deliver exceptional service standards.

Key responsibilities:

Operational Management

Oversee the daily operations of the transport department, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery
Develop and implement operational policies to enhance efficiency and safety.
Coordinate and manage the scheduling and dispatch of the fleet along with the transport team.
Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations, including health and safety, environmental policies, and legal requirements.
Maintain up to date knowledge of transport legislation and ensure the companies operations adhere to all legal standards.
Fleet Management

Monitor and optimise the performance of the fleet, ensuring vehicles are well maintained and service schedules are adhered to.
Implement cost- effective strategies for fleet utilisation and fuel management.
Team Leadership

Lead, motivate, and manage a team of drivers and office staff.
Conduct performance reviews, provide training, and support the professional development of the department.
Foster a positive and collaborative working environment.
Customer Service

Ensure high standards of customer service are maintained, addressing any issues or complaints promptly and effectively.
Work closely with customers to build and maintain business relationships.
Financial Management

Manage the transport budget, ensuring cost control and financial efficiency
Monitor and report on key performance indicators in weekly operations meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

Proven experience in transport management
Holder of a CPC in road haulage
Strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements
Excellent organisational and leadership skills
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
