Public Hearts will be funding another Cardiac Screening day with Cardiac Risk in the Young at The SchoolHouse Café in St Paul’s Cheltenham in 5 months, on 28 January 2025
This will build on and expand our positive impact and we’re going to need your support to make it success it needs to be for families and young people aged 14-35 and for those who do not have access to these services or perhaps can not afford to pay for their own heart screen.
Back on 24 April 2024, to celebrate Public Hearts 5th anniversary of raising awareness and numbers of life-saving defibrillators in our community, we ran a funded heart screening day for young people aged between 14 and 35 thanks to the great work of charity, Cardiac risk in the Young (CRY) who for decades have championed ECG and, where required, ECHO screening to effectively diagnose unseen heart conditions.
CRY’s vital and pioneering work focuses on preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.
In 80% of cases, there are no previous signs or symptoms, and ECG screening is the first port of call.
Our first funded heart screening day was met with open arms and hearts at The SchoolHouse Café in St Pauls by 101 young people and their families.
3 referrals were made for further investigation/ treatment.
With 12 young people aged 14-35 dying from sudden cardiac death EVERY WEEK in the UK, it is vital that these services are made available to increase awareness, access and confidence for young people to step forwards and take this important step in their health journey.
