University of Gloucestershire National Apprenticeship Week

On Wednesday 9 February 2022, we will be holding our annual employer event as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

The event is free to attend and is open to employers and apprenticeship providers from across Gloucestershire and the surrounding region.

About this event

This year we are delighted to welcome three guest speakers:

Lord John Bird, Founder of The Big Issue

Lord Bird is a passionate advocate of apprenticeships and re-training. As a crossbench life peer, Lord Bird co-chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Future Generations. He is currently working on a private member’s bill, the Well-being of Future Generations Bill, as part of a cross-party campaign.

Pete Carr, Director of Employment and Skills for GFirst LEP

Employers across the country are facing some significant skills shortages and Pete will provide an update on how this is impacting local businesses, as well as how apprenticeships can be part of the solution.

Deborah Lee, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust

Deborah is a champion of apprenticeships at all levels. As an organisation with a ‘top slice’ levy, GHNHSFT has taken a strategic approach to its apprenticeships offer, providing opportunities for both new career entrants and continuous professional development. At the event she will share some of the lessons that have been learnt along the way.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to find out more about apprenticeships available across the county, including degree apprenticeships provided by the University of Gloucestershire.
